Fan of the Month

As the dashing Lantra on the forums, you've seen him make clever comments, ask the unaskable, state the unstatable, go where no fan (well, not very many fans) have gone before! He's Matt from Canada, Fan of the Month for June! His wit and charm won over each of the Inhabitants that he came into contact with, and now we want to share this special fan with the whole world! - Alf

Name:   Matt H.
Age: 12
Location:   Vancouver, Canada
Occupation:   Student and small time political analyst.
Favorite video game?
Matt::   Aside from Oddworld I enjoy the Starcraft, and Warcraft series, as well as Final Fantasy X and Birth of the Federation.

Hobbies?
Matt: My hobbies include writing and inventing stories, playing games, reading, drawing, and playing the piano.

Favorite film?
Matt:   My favorite films would have to be Ocean's 11 (the remake), the Legend of Bagger Vance and Meet Joe Black.

Favorite food?
Matt:   Well to be honest, I don't actually eat a lot, but when I do eat I like French crepes and strawberries and cream.

When did you first become aware of Oddworld?
Matt:  I first became aware of Oddworld when my brother bought me a copy of Abe's Oddysee from England.

When did you first become a true Oddworld fanatic?
Matt::  It is safe to say that I only became a true Oddworld fan when my friend told me that there were going to be five games. As soon as I heard this I immediately surfed the net for every scrap of information that I could find. Over the course of a year my "fanaticism" grew until I owned both Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus as well as being a regular poster of the fledgling Oddworld Forums.

What is your favorite Oddworld character and why?
Matt:  I like all the lab rat characters such as Gabbits, Meeps, and Fuzzles, but overall my favorite would be the ratz. They look incredible, they are always there in the background: ubiquitous, silent and I loved the concept of them being the eyes and ears of the Almighty Raisin.

Favorite bad guy?
Matt:  I would have to say that my favorite bad guys are the Glukkons. They are such an original concept, they are totally evil, without being all "cackling laugh" type of villain, and they look awesome.

What's your favorite environment?
Matt  I like all the environments especially the forest ones in Munch, but my favorite would definitely be Monsaic Temple, I love the way you have to memorize passwords, and I love the look and mystical feel that it has about

Have you finished Munch's Oddysee?
Matt  Yes, I have finished it 3 times. I have also got black quarma, regular good-ending, and I have saved all the Fuzzles, Eggcrates, and Mudokons.

Would you write a paragraph on your visit to the Oddworld studios and your impressions?
Matt:  Oddworld studios was one of the coolest and Oddest places that I have ever seen. Unlike most corporate companies which are cold, hard, concentration camps, Oddworld literally wallowed in an aura of creativity, mystery, and above all fun. Everyone joked and laughed as they worked and in the case of the C.G. department played hoops when they thought no one was looking. Also, even though everyone was so busy they were always willing to say hi, and even answer some of my many questions. The walls were covered in the artwork of production designers, C.G. technicians and all the other departments who seemed justifiably proud of them.

The highlight of my trip to Oddworld was when I got to meet Lorne Lanning himself. He was a cheerful guy who had no problem with chatting to me for what seemed like ages, he gave the impression of a worldly, slightly Odd kind of person, a person who would get really excited by any question about Oddworld and had no problem pointing out obscure facets of the series. Overall Oddworld was just that Odd, a great place to visit and a fantastic creative environment to work in.

If you could ask Oddworld creator Lorne Lanning one thing, what would it be?
Matt:  How did you come up with Oddworld?

Anything you would like to say to your fellow Oddworld fans?
Matt:  Yes, stay Odd! Never give up on Oddworld, it is truly one of a kind.
