People

Lorne Lanning, Bennie Terry III and Holly Newman are all directors of Scattered Brains. The form submitted to Arizona Corporation Commission applying for authority to do business in Arizona, signed by Newman on , lists Lanning as the Chief Executive Officer, and Newman and Terry as Secretaries. However, the Arizona Corporation Commission website lists Newman as both CEO and Secretary, and doesn't include Lanning as an officer.[2][3]

Scattered Brains is authorized to issue 12 000 000 common shares, none of which were issued as of .[2] On LinkedIn, game designer and producer Steve Gray (previously of Square–Enix, EA, THQ and Tencent) and financial analyst Leath Bing are listed as Co-Founders of Scattered Brains, since and respectively.[4][5]

Alanna Lausch, who previously worked for Oddworld Inhabitants on their social media campaign for the 2022 Webby Awards, has been interning at Scattered Brains as an Associate Marketing Manager since .[6] Anthony Palma, a startup advisor, has been advising Scattered Brains since . Palma works full-time on Gaming Partnerships and Investments at Mysten Labs, developer of the gaming blockchain Sui.[7]

Trademarks

Although the exact business of Scattered Brains hasn't been revealed, the company has filed four trademarks with the United States Patent & Trademark Office, all on .[8] On the company issued yet another trademark, this time for a project named DEDEX.[9] Almost a year later, on one more trademark appeared, dubbed WARSPORT.[10]

The goods and services covered by each of these trademarks are mostly the same, and broadly concern the distribution of video games (including virtual, augmented and mixed reality games), both downloadable and non-downloadable, as well as associated multimedia (e.g. audio and video). Crucially, the authentication of users and devices would be via the use of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The trademarks also cover software for the storage and transaction of cryptocurrency using blockchain technology.[8]

As of , the trademark for Scattered Brains[11] and Planet of the Pests[12] are both marked "Pending", having both requested an extension to the Statement of Use submission deadline. DEDEX is currently also "Pending", however, Scattered Brains has so far not requested an extension to its submission deadline. As WARSPORT is, at the time of writing, extremely recent, there is no further information about it, beyond being submitted.

NFTalent[13] and NFTalent Agency[14] are both marked "Abandoned", citing a "failure to respond", which means unless a revival fee is paid, these trademarks remain invalid regardless of their admissibility. Considering general market trends and opinions towards NFTs, it is unlikely Scattered Brains would continue developments towards this direction.

Scattered Brains, Inc. was incorporated on in the State of Delaware, with the file number 6625579; an amended certificate was restated on .[15]

On , Scattered Brains applied for authority to conduct business in Arizona,[2] which was approved on 9 June.[3]

Publicity

User u/Rathalos11 first posted their discovery of Scattered Brains on the Oddworld subreddit <r/oddworld> on ,[16] and later found a description of the company on Co-Founder Leath Bing's LinkedIn profile.[17]

Shortly before this, on , in response to questions from members, Dan Sheridan posted on the Oddworld Discord that Oddworld Inhabitants will not be using NFTs.[18]

In the promotional description of the panel discussion ‘Studio Owners Round Table’ for LightBox Expo 2023, participant Lorne Lanning was listed in full as ‘Lorne Lanning of Oddworld Inhabitants & Scattered Brains’. The panel was scheduled to take place on at the Pasadena Convention Center, California,[19] but took place instead on .[20][21]
