The Uggae Estate is the Glukkon business family headed by Lady Margaret. Although it has never been mentioned or referred to in an Oddworld videogame, it is named in three unused M.O.M. News broadcasts originally created for Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee. In an earlier, planned storyline for Munch's Oddysee, Molluck would have been placed on trial in the Uggae Estate Courthouse in Nolybab, where Fong Foo would have been reporting live.

Not all Glukkons are members of the Uggae Estate, only those who are birthed by Lady Margaret. Although Lady Margaret appears to be the ruler of the Estate, she actually manages it on behalf of her grandmother, who remains in cryonic suspended animation. Her grandmother maintains ownership of the Uggae Estate and dictates quotas and budgets through legal means established before she chose to freeze herself. Her grandmother will only be awakened if the Uggae Estate's profits drop below an established threshold.[1]

History

The first mention of the Uggae Estate was on the Movies of Oddworld DVD, where three short cutscenes showed a Newscaster Slig reporting on the recovery and trial of Molluck, and on the Mudokon uprisings on the Outer Rim. In the first cutscene, the Newscaster states that Molluck will face trial against ‘the Uggae Estate Queen Glukk herself: Lady Margaret!’ In the second, he describes Abe as damaging ‘factories of the Uggae Estate and the Magog Cartel.’ In the third, the Newscaster simply introduces coverage of Molluck's trial taking place at the Uggae Estate Courthouse.

Movies of Oddworld was first released in the United States as a bonus for pre-orders of Oddworld Stranger's Wrath, with copies first being delivered in mid-.[2] In and , The Oddworld Cinema uploaded all three clips to YouTube, allowing anyone without the DVD to watch them.[3][4][5]

Because the only mention of the name was in audio without official subtitles or transcriptions, fans were left to wonder not only the nature of the Uggae Estate, but also the spelling. Guesses for the spelling included ‘Uguayis Dei’,[6]Uguaya State’,[7]Uguay Estate’,[8]Uguea State’,[9]Uwaya state’,[10] and ‘Ugwaya State/Ugway Estate’.[11] The spelling was only confirmed by Alf in the edition of Dear Alf.[10]

In this Dear Alf, Alf says that the Uggae Estate is protected by lawyers and is ruled by a monster that can kill with its gaze. The former presumably refers to Chroniclers, while the latter presumably refers to Lady Margaret.[10]

Oh man, you won't catch me saying anything about the Uggae Estate. Not with the lawyers those freaks have got. I hear it's ruled by a horrible monster that can literally scare you to death with its gaze. Nope. I'm not going there.

The second and final time that the Uggae Estate is brought up by Alf, he simply describes the relationship between the Estate and the Magog Cartel as ‘Hierarchical![12] The exact relationship between the two organizations remains a topic of speculation among fans.[13]
