7th Annual Oddworld Forums Poster Awards

The 7th Annual Oddworld Forums Poster Awards were the seventh in the series of semi-annual member awards on the Oddworld Forums that have continued to the present.[1] They were the first Awards hosted entirely by Wired, who opened voting on in an increased 29 categories.[2] Twenty-eight members voted in the Awards, the results of which were posted on .[3]

Categories

The 7th Awards marked the first substantial change to the lineup of categories in the Awards. Although Hobo had been wanting to overhaul the Awards ‘for years’[4] and had tried with Wil to introduce changes to the previous year's 6th Awards,[5] it wasn't until the Awards' founder, Wolfpac, stopped posting on the Oddworld Forums for nearly a full year[6] that Alcar granted permission for the Forums' staff to assume control of the Awards and their categories.[7]

New categories

Wired created a thread for members of the Oddworld Forums to suggest changes to the awards categories.[8] After discussing the suggestions in the Employee Lounge forum,[9] the 7th Awards contained six new categories.

Half of these categories lasted only a single year (becoming the Awards' first one-off categories), but ‘Best Blogger’ and ‘Most Unintentionally Funny Poster’ lasted for 6 and 7 years respectively, while ‘Greatest Debator’ has been used in nearly every Awards since.[1] Other categories discussed but not used until later Awards included ‘Greatest Meme Usage’ (suggested by Wil[9]) and versions of ‘Most Changed Member’ (suggested by Killy[10] and Strike Witch[16]).

In addition, the categories of ‘Best Artist’ and ‘Best Writer’ were each divided into two categories, one specific to Oddworld content, the other specific to non-Oddworld content. For ‘Best Writer’, this distinction was reversed the following year, but separate Oddworld and non-Oddworld categories for ‘Best Artist’ were used for a further two years.

Retired categories

Two categories were removed from the lineup: ‘Insane Poster’ was removed for being too similar to ‘Most Eccentric’ but overly extreme,[17] and ‘Most Respected Poster’ was also ended. Neither category has been used since, making them the first categories to stop being used in the Annual Oddworld Forums Poster Awards.

Renamed categories

A number of categories were renamed for the 7th Awards.
